All petrol and CNG pumps in India, whether operated by public sector companies such as BPCL, IOCL, and HPCL or private players like Reliance (Jio-bp) and MNGL, are required to follow strict company rules and statutory norms while setting up and running their outlets.

A key element is the canopy, which must always be constructed as per the respective company’s specifications, including structural design, clear height, wind load capacity, drainage, lighting, earthing, and branding elements like fascia, ACP cladding, and logo placement. These designs are standardized by each oil and gas company and must strictly conform to their approved engineering drawings and Retail Visual Identity (RVI) guidelines.

In addition to canopy compliance, every outlet is mandated to provide certain essential customer services across all companies. These include free air for tyre inflation, clean drinking water, separate and hygienic toilet facilities, proper first-aid and fire-safety equipment, and display boards that show daily fuel prices, working hours, and emergency contact numbers.Quality and quantity checks, such as filter paper tests and density records, must also be made available to customers on demand.

Reliance Jio-bp further specifies that dealers must ensure a sales office, compressor/tyre inflator, DG set, and power and water connections as per company advice, while MNGL’s CNG stations require dealers to construct civil, electrical, and canopy works strictly as per MNGL’s design specifications.

HPCL, IOCL, and BPCL follow similar engineering and safety rules under PESO and Petroleum Acts, ensuring proper tank layout, setbacks, fire safety measures, and illumination standards.Thus, while each company issues its own technical and branding guidelines, the common framework ensures that every fuel station in India maintains uniform safety, service, and customer convenience standards.
